On the other hand, a neglected or broken fence detracts from your residence or place of business and may even lower its worth. Even worse, it can present a risk to your family’s safety as well as that of others, not to mention a privacy concern—wood fences with gaps in them and missing boards aren’t exactly discreet.

However, how can you tell whether your fencing need upkeep or repairs? Is it destined to end after another year or is it only a strong wind away? Here is a list of six indicators that your fence needs maintenance.
1. There are cracked, broken, or splintering boards
A fence that needs to be repaired may be identified by its obvious and ugly symptoms, which include breaks and cracks in the boards, runners, or slats. They can result in some severe splinters and weaken the stability and strength of your fencing in addition to being unsightly.
Your dfw fence contractor may need to repair a few boards, a section, or many panels, depending on the severity of the damage. The new, sturdy boards may then be painted or stained to match the existing ones. At this point, it’s generally a good idea to seal the entire fence to prevent future damage to the old and new boards.
2. Rotten Wood
One of the most exquisite materials is wood, but no matter the grade, wood is susceptible to decay and disintegration. Wood rot is a kind of degradation brought on by certain fungus. Depending on the kind, the fungus softens, discolors, and gives the wood a webbed, spongy, or cracked appearance. Certain forms of fungus may spread over different materials, such as brickwork, even though they only infest wood.
Simply apply pressure with a screwdriver to the wood in any area you believe to be rotting. If it immediately sinks in, wood rot is the cause.
It’s hard to completely eradicate wood rot, even if you identify it very early, and wood that has already gotten softer cannot really be restored. Any rotting wood will most likely need to be replaced by your dfw fence contractor, however minor rotten sections could be able to be scraped out and filled up with epoxy if needed.
3. Unstable Posts
Traditional wood posts, which support your wooden fence, may begin to sink, droop, bend, or warp over time, making the fence unsafe. It will not be long before the entire fence falls if the post is loose. Usually, a concrete base holds the posts in place, but with time, it may collapse and cause the posts to wobble.
Take a post and shake it thoroughly. If it moves in the slightest, you should have a dfw fence contractor to fix it or resecure it. Ideally, it shouldn’t move at all. It could be able to lay new concrete while preserving the original post if the concrete footing is the issue.
4. The Ground Touches the Bottom of the Fence
The only components that should be in contact with the ground are the posts and footings. The distance between the bottom of the board and the earth underneath it should be a few inches for both vertical and horizontal wood fences. When they come into touch, the fence may eventually sink or dirt may accumulate, leaving the boards susceptible to decay and other problems.
Depending on what is generating the contact, the therapy may consist of nothing more complicated than moving the boards up on their posts or clearing away extra dirt.
5. The paint or stain is chipping and peeling.
Selecting a paint or stain color for your wooden fencing not only offers a terrific way to show off your particular flair to the neighborhood but also assists to prevent the wood from deterioration. On the other hand, when the finishing is coming off of the wood and leaving it susceptible, it looks bad to onlookers and guests.
In order to guarantee that the wood is protected for an extended period of time, a service expert can remove the old, peeling, or chipped finish from it, reapply it, and then add sealant. Furthermore, now is the ideal time to paint your house a new color if you intend to update its appearance!
6. Disobeys local ordinances
Perhaps your fence is in excellent shape, but you’ve been notified that it’s overhanging the permitted height or is intruding on city land. It is preferable to take care of things before you incur a fine.
If your fence is excessively high, you might be able to lower the feet without having to interfere with the footings or the bottom portion of the fence. If it has to be repositioned a few feet, moving the posts and footings will need to be done as part of a larger project.
